Our brains are running a cost-benefit analysis. Like any other well-evolved organism, we use mental shortcuts, which are more efficient to save energy. Fair enough, but to achieve more we need to expand those capacities and allow them to charge our energy instead of burning it. Using quotes might not be my favorite thing but I know that they resonate with a lot of people, so, here we are...
"An intuitive mind is a sacred gift and a rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant, and has forgotten the gift."
~ Albert Einstein
This quote makes a lot of sense but I will be a little anal about it and won't completely agree with Albert. There isn't anything like an "intuitive mind". Intuition is the information that our entire body draws from deep memory. When we subconsciously spot a pattern our body is firing neurochemicals in our gut, heart, and brain. An interesting fact is that if you give a chunk of heart and brain to a neuroanatomist to look under the microscope, he will not be able to tell the difference between the heart and the brain matter because they are both full of neurons. The heart is not just a pump, it is an organ of knowledge and perception. Intuition often gets filtered by our heads because, in fact, our society has taught us to use just the left side of our brain, cut down that connection to the rest of the body, and use only our head as the main control center. If we do exactly that, we basically treat the rest of our body like a dumpster bag and use only about 30% of our potential, or in other words, 30% of our brainpower.
There is nothing worse than living your life only in your head. You might as well be a corpse... People who are living life in their heads miss out on an extraordinary ability to live life and use it effectively.
Now you probably wonder what kind of person you are. Are you an intuitive individual or living in your head kind of guy? Those of you who are intuitive most likely don't wonder because they already know and the rest of you need to analyze the questions you ask yourself. People who ask "How" a lot, are those who are living in their heads. There are people that constantly ask; "How do you do this?" or "How do you do that?" Stop that!
Most of us don't know how electricity works but we still use it. We all like smartphones, do we all know how do they work? No, of course not.
They either work or they don't. We find them useful, we like it, and that's the end of it.
Steve Jobs said in one of his interviews; "The people in the Indian countryside don't use their intellect the same way as we do. They use their intuition instead, and their intuition is far more developed than in the rest of the world."
Intuition is the highest form of intelligence. Intuitive people commonly have very good empathetic abilities, meaning they can sense what others are thinking and feeling. Their minds are highly attuned to the vibrational frequencies given off by the environment and they use this information to further refine the way they act in a situation. It is not about knowing the answer and thinking it through. It is about an instant understanding of what information is unimportant and which can be discarded. One other example would be with older adults. Recent research has shown that when older adults rely more on their intuition versus their declining deliberative faculties, the quality of their decisions is significantly improved.
In my line of work, I have hunches that I can't always explain but I know that I need to trust it and go ahead. Thanks to technology today I have answers to those hunches right at my fingertips and I research them -- that's the science part. I trust those hunches in my private life as well and thanks to those I have a bucket full of incredible memories. I know that I will not be dying with just dreams.
Was Steve Jobs right? My gut feeling tells me -- absolutely, and if an intuitive person is hungry for knowledge and is willing to test their own assumption, their success is almost tangible. People like that take a deep dive into the subject and study different possibilities.
However, even though intuition sounds great and all, it also does have a dark side. There is a lot of highly intuitive people out there but for some reason, they just can not connect that to their thinking process. It's like using a computer without Wi-Fi. They sit on a couch, trust their instinct but do nothing to exercise their intelligence.
Another downfall of intuition is that its strength can also be our vulnerability. Empaths for example are very intuitive people and masters at reading facial expression, body language, tone of voice, and even body mass and become experts in human psychology. They need just one look towards a person and are able to tell straight away if that person is a liar, faker, or evil, so they can protect themselves beforehand.
Empaths are emotional sponges and even though they would like to help others that help often forces them to isolation.
Providing support is a form of art. You have to know what to offer and how because people don’t always ask for what they need. You always need to keep that in mind. Steve Jobs never did any client surveys and people often asked him "Why don't you ask people what they want? "He said: "Respectfully, but quite often they cannot even see what is possible". A person who is living in its head thinks more about what does the world need, what does the consumer want, and he needs to ask a lot of questions. That is because his creativity is not supported by intuition.
Great individuals like Leonardo Da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Gautama Buddha, applied their intuition to their work as the most important ingredient. If you want your life to evolve to the next level you also need to tap into that intuition.
Don't be shy to contact me if you need any help establishing that connection within, as it does not come easy for everyone.
